Our Water Supply

Providing high quality, reliable and affordable water service to our community is a very fulfilling job that LCA is pleased to do. Meeting the public’s need for utility services in a responsible, environmentally friendly and customer-oriented manner is our goal.

In most of our service areas, our water comes from deep wells drilled into the local groundwater supply, which is quite plentiful in our service area. We add chlorine to our water for disinfection purposes. Due to the high quality of our local groundwater resources, little additional treatment is necessary to ensure a safe supply of drinking water. In North Whitehall Township and parts of Washington Township, we purchase some or all of our water supply from neighboring utilities where groundwater is less plentiful or more expensive to treat.

Are you an LCA water customer? What do you think about your tap water? Our recent surveys tell us that our customers have widely different views about our water. Some think it smells too much like chlorine, while others say it tastes great. Many customers don’t like the water hardness (mineral content), but almost all customers say they don’t want to see their water bills increase as a result of adding new treatment systems. Some customers would like to see fluoride added to the water, while others are very happy that we don’t add fluoride. Every customer has a different viewpoint, but we all want the same thing when it comes to our tap water: affordability, reliability and safety.
