Time to clean house! Disposal events this fall . . .
August 20, 2010Are you storing “stuff” in your garage, attic, shed, porch, etc. that you don’t know how to get rid of? Many of us would like to take care of our environment but just don’t know how to get rid of household items and hazardous wastes such as used motor oil, old pesticide, batteries, air conditioners, etc.
This fall, a couple of events are being offered to help you get rid of these household items in a safe manner.
September 25 – Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off: Registration is required for this event, which is held at LCA’s wastewater treatment plant in Fogelsville, and run by the Lehigh County Office of Solid Waste. Click here to register
October 16 – Computer & Electronics Recycling Day: Lower Macungie Township community center, 3450 Brookside Road. Contact the township’s Environmental Advisory Council for more information.
***Important note about prescription and over-the-counter medications!***
Please don’t dump old medications down the drain or flush them in the toilet! When you flush medications down the drain, you are putting them directly into our sewer systems, which will eventually end up in our water supply as modern wastewater treatment plants cannot remove pharmaceutical compounds from the water. Instead, please place your unused medications in a sealed container in the garbage for normal trash disposal where they cannot enter or water supply.
