    Central Lehigh Division

    LCA Service Area: Portions of Upper Macungie, Lower Macungie, Salisbury, South Whitehall, Upper Milford, Weisenberg and Lowhill townships in central and western Lehigh County.

    Number of Customers: Approximately 18,171 residential and commercial properties served.

    Water Supply: Fourteen wells located throughout the service area, plus an interconnection with LCA’s Allentown Division water system, produce an average of 10.2 million gallons of water per day. The Allentown Division draws its water from two large springs, the Little Lehigh Creek and the Lehigh River.

    Water Treatment: Water from LCA’s wells is disinfected with chlorine to kill bacteria. No other treatment is necessary in order to ensure a safe supply of drinking water. The Allentown Division water supply is treated at LCA’s full-scale water filtration plant located in Allentown.

    Fluoride in your water? LCA adds fluoride to the water at our Allentown Division treatment plant, which supplies about 75% of the water to this service area. When blended with our well supplies, customers receive fluoride that may vary from 0 to 0.6 parts per million. Please consult with your pediatrician or dentist about proper fluoride supplements for your children.

    Water Hardness: 12 – 18 grains per gallon (range reflects a variety of water supplies that may be in use in this system at any time)

    Hardness Scale:

    0 – 5 grains per gallon = Soft Water

    6 – 10 grains per gallon = Moderately Hard Water

    > 11 grains per gallon = Hard Water

    Emmaus Consecutive Division

    LCA Service Area: Various properties and developments located in Lower Macungie, Upper Milford and Salisbury townships, just outside the Borough of Emmaus. Service area includes 462 residential and commercial properties.

    Water Supply: LCA purchases an average of 77,000 gallons of water per day for your system from the Borough of Emmaus, where water is drawn from groundwater wells.

    Water Treatment: Emmaus treats its water at each of its wells to ensure the safety of your water supply. For more information about the borough’s treatment systems, please call 610-965-9288.

    Arcadia West Division

    LCA Service Area: The Arcadia West Division provides water service to the Arcadia West Industrial Park in Weisenberg Township, western Lehigh County, with service to 19 commercial and institutional properties.

    Water Supply: Two deep wells located in the Arcadia West Industrial Park supply approximately 23,000 gallons per day of groundwater to this system.

    Water Treatment: Water from LCA’s wells is disinfected with chlorine to kill bacteria. Sodium hydroxide is also added to adjust the pH of the water slightly. This treatment helps to prevent lead and copper leaching from customers’ internal plumbing systems.

  • North Whitehall Division

    LCA Service Area: 945 customers located in North Whitehall Township in the Orefield, Schnecksville and Neffs villages and vicinity in northern Lehigh County.

    Water Supply: Three wells plus an interconnection with the Northampton Borough Municipal Authority (NBMA) system, which draws water from the Lehigh River and the Spring Mill Dam. These sources are combined to produce an average of 501,000 gallons per day.

    Water Treatment: Water from LCA’s wells is disinfected with chlorine to kill bacteria and treated to reduce the manganese that is naturally occurring in this area. NBMA’s water is treated and fluoridated at a surface water filtration and treatment plant. For more information about NBMA’s treatment methods and supply, please call 610-262-6711.

    Fluoride in your water? NBMA adds fluoride to the water at its treatment plant. When blended with LCA supplies, customers receive fluoride that may vary from 0 to 0.63 parts per million. Please consult with your pediatrician or dentist about proper fluoride supplements for your children.

    Water Hardness: 3-10 grains per gallon (range reflects a variety of water supplies that may be in use in this system at any time)

  • Allentown Division

    LCA Service Area: All developed areas within the boundaries of the City of Allentown.

    Number of Customers: Approximately 33,436 residential and commercial properties served, plus wholesale water service provided to neighboring communities through long-term supply contracts.

    Water Supply: Approximately 21 million gallons per day is drawn from the Allentown Division sources, including Crystal Spring, Schantz Spring, the Little Lehigh Creek, and the Lehigh River.

    Water Treatment: Water from all LCA sources is treated at a full-scale water treatment and filtration plant located in Allentown. Treatment processes include coagulation and flocculation, settling, filtration and chemical addition. Chlorine is the primary agent used to kill bacteria, and some corrosion-control treatment is used to ensure proper pH of the water delivered to customers.
